Utilising the Drillpress
Here are a few ideas on how to utilise your drill press to work with leather.
This post is a few different ways i use the standard bench type drill press to help me out with some of the tedious hand tasks involved in leather work:
Safety first: Always remember to take care with any machine or equipment you may use! You need those fingers and hands to create with and i am guessing we have all had that injury along our journey that has been very restrictive, not to mention the pain.

Are you buying Fax or Fake Leather?
Looks good but will it last...no!
Took a little Sunday drive into the city and viewed some markets that i am sure were 95% stocked with Chinese plastic items & textiles…. etc etc… sorta made me a little sad to think that our local people are that hung up on a buck that they will bring this rubbish in MASS to the masses????? I certainly erked at the whole situation and felt like screaming….. ” omg Get creative and make some good ol’e Aussie stuff from natural materials, grow a chilli, learn to sew or just bring originality…. but hey most people out there look at the shiny glossy Chinese products and all they see is (more…)
Keable Belt Construction
The original handmade Keable Belt, unique, practical & limited, a very special gift that will last a very long time.
The very first commissioned new style Keable Belt is currently under construction:
Step one is the selection of top grain cow hide belting leather and taking a straight length cut down the hide.
The use of a Vegetable Tanned leather allows for the process called “casing” in which the leather is moistened with water and allowed to sit until it is just about re-dried, at this time the leather becomes soft with a clay type consistency and can be stamped & carved. The reason for doing this on the modern day Keable Belt is to embed our Makers stamp insignia into the belt just passed where the buckle mounts and the plaiting begins. (more…)
